Quantum superposition as narrative structure
An author's note by Karen Michael, Founder, QConsul LLC, on the Lambda Series: Cat Fur on the Pant Legs of Tech Giants.
The Lambda Series is human-written, near-present allegorical fiction with multiple meanings folded into each beat. The note below is reproduced verbatim with permission.
Author's note on layered meaning
I thought about your analogy of 1 + 1 = 2 in writing.
Using this analogy, I wanted to clarify that Book One sets a very brief foundation of qubit superposition in the storyline. This is important background for Books One and Two, where the analogy can be expressed as a + b = c, if superposition is expressed using classic integers:
a = 1 or 0 or both
b = 1 or 0 or both
therefore, c = 0 or 1 or 2This expression may be as close as classical integers get to having a sense of humor.
Using the analogy, superposition expressed as classical integers represents the array of possible meanings for any given thought in the writing. Single meanings. Double meanings. Triple meanings.
Truth. Fiction. Possibility.
I hope this clarifies Book Two using your excellent analogy.

Why the metaphor matters beyond the books
The same instinct shapes QConsul's AI-native practice: holding more than one reading of a system at once, refusing premature collapse to a single interpretation, and designing for the readings that emerge when adjacent units of meaning combine.
Frequently asked questions
What does qubit superposition have to do with fiction?
In the Lambda Series, each unit of meaning is constructed so it can be read more than one way at once — single, double, or triple meanings. Adjacent units then juxtapose or aggregate into further meanings, mirroring how a qubit can be 0, 1, or both, and how two qubits can combine into 0, 1, or 2.
Why structure a novel this way?
To invite human-to-human and human-to-AI discussion. Reading the books aloud — in a book group or to an AI agent — surfaces the layered readings that a single-pass read can miss.
Which books in the Lambda Series use this structure?
Book 1, 'Lambda says don't blame it on the AGI,' sets a brief foundation of qubit superposition in the storyline. Book 2, 'Tuff says blame it on the cyborg cat,' extends the structural metaphor across the narrative.
